R.P.

Registered Psychotherapist

My work involves helping men overcome the barriers that lead to mental health concerns and challenges. Some of these may include: addiction, shame, low-self esteem, relationship issues, trauma, and poor communication skills. With a focus on providing a safe environment, I understand that men face unique challenges when it comes to seeking help and finding emotional support.

With over three years of experience working at an addiction rehabilitation community agency health centre, I have support men in a variety of ways including: developing therapeutic life skills such as empathy, goal setting, problem solving, setting boundaries, self-esteem, and assertiveness. in previous roles, I have co-facilitated a weekly harm-reduction stabilization support group for individuals actively struggling with substance abuse.

I use a combination of tools and therapeutic approaches including Rogerian, CBT, Mindfulness, Existentialism, Strength based, and EFT to meet the specific needs of each client. I support clients to process their emotions and develop a positive outlook on life. I encourage my clients to focus on things within their control, to take accountability for their actions, and to find meaning and purpose in their lives.

Through therapy, my clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves, build self-love and confidence, and develop the tools needed to create a fulfilling and meaningful life. With a focus on cognitive and emotional processing, we also work to stabilize the mind, body, and emotions, set healthy boundaries, and journal one’s experiences.

I am a graduate of York University where I earned a BA in Psychology, and I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. With lived experience assisting individuals with mental health challenges in his personal life, I bring empathy and understanding to my work.

Men can expect to experience hope, better connection with loved ones and self, and a life filled with meaning, fulfillment, and purpose. A hypothetical hug awaits you as you take the first step in your journey towards self-discovery and emotional healing.
